Mindfulness is an ancient practice of many philosophies and religions, mainly from Eastern or Oriental regions – Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism, and even Christianism. It had a boom in the Occident world by the hand of Jon Kabat-Zinn, a professor of medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, that created the Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction Program (MBSR) in the late seventies.
Mindfulness may be defined as the awareness that emerges through paying attention on purpose, in the present moment, and nonjudgmentally to the unfolding of experience moment by moment.
