Recent Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis of Mindfulness based interventions (listed on the table) have consistently shown a beneficial effect of mindfulness practices on the reduction of depression, anxiety and stress. Some studies point also a reduction of insomnia and increase in sleep quality. Other beneficial effects include enhancement of executive functioning, working memory, attentional functioning, concentration, well-being and health perceptions.
A randomized controlled study has shown a beneficial effect of mindfulness on hypertension. The group submited to an intervention with Mindfulness practices had a greater reduction in blood pressure (both systolic and diastolic) than the group submited to an intervention for healthy lifestyle. The mindfulness intervention may have had a modest positive influence on participants initiating lifestyle behavior change, which partially explains the greater reduction.
